Google Maps For Android And iOS Updated With New Messaging Features For Businesses

Google is making it easier for Maps users to communicate with businesses directly within the app. Google Maps for Android and iOS will be updated with new messaging features for businesses is aimed at consumers, while businesses will get a new Google My Business app.

The update will add a Message icon and an inbox view for all conversations with businesses, Google explains in a blog post. Also, shops and restaurants that have a Business Profile with Google will see the new Message button appearing on their listing as well, together with call shortcut.

“Now you’ll see your messages with the businesses you connect with via Business Profiles within the Google Maps app, where you’re already looking for things to do and places to go or shop,” Google explains in a company blog post. “You’ll find these messages in the side menu of both Google Maps for Android and iOS.”

All messages sent to or received from a business will now show up under a separate tab within the Google Maps interface. Since most users search for and locate local shopping options or places to eat within the Google Maps interface, it makes logical sense to place the messages option here.

Once enabled, you will be able to tap the “message” option when you click on a Business Profile. This will pop you into the Messages tab from where you can initiate communication. Responses will show up within the same messaging interface. Google plans to expand availability of the feature to more countries over the coming weeks. The conversation between a consumer and business accounts happens in a clean messaging interface, and conversations can be accessed from the Messages section in the Maps app at any time.

However, if you’re a business, you’ll have to install the latest version of Google My Business app from Google Play or App Store so that you can accept messages from potential customers.
