Hot on the heels of Apple’s new iPhone unveiling last week, and the impending pre-order release of iPhone 8, Google appears to be gearing up to introduce its next-generation Pixel 2 series. Reports are hinting towards a possible launch event on October 4th.
This exciting revelation comes courtesy of an eagle-eyed reader of Droid life, who stumbled upon an intriguing advertisement in Boston. The billboard’s prominent tagline read, “Ask more of your phone,” closely followed by the Google logo and an enigmatic “Oct. 4”. This intriguing fusion of elements suggests the smartphone titan could be pulling the covers off its highly-anticipated Pixel phones on October 4th.
However, for keen industry observers, this doesn’t come as a complete surprise. Google’s previous models, the Pixel and Pixel XL, made their grand appearances on October 4th last year. Thus, it’s plausible that Google intends to establish a trend of unveiling its new Pixels on the same date each year. This theory stands reinforced by the predictions of renowned “leakster” Evan Blass, who foretold a possible 5th October release, aligning closely with the Boston billboard’s hint.
The upcoming Pixel 2, codenamed ‘Taimen’ and ‘Walleye’, was manufactured by HTC―rumored to be a potential acquisition target for Google. On the other hand, the Pixel 2 XL is an LG product. Both of these devices are reportedly set to feature distinct design enhancements and functional differences.
Supposed Features of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
In terms of design, the Pixel 2 is expected to sport a thicker bezel and a compact 5.0-inch display, whereas the Pixel 2 XL may align more closely with the sleek aesthetics of the iPhone 8 and the Galaxy S8. The Pixel 2 XL’s 5.99-inch screen purportedly stands significantly taller than its counterpart’s. Ensuring impressive performance on both devices, Google reportedly embedded the devices with a Snapdragon 835 processor chip, complemented by dual rear cameras.
Leading tech site, Droid life, shared that these eagerly-awaited devices successfully cleared the American Federal Communications Commission (FCC) test and interestingly, the device model number is purportedly GO11C.
With its impressive speculated features, the Pixel 2 seems poised to contend fiercely with other leading market players such as the new iPhones 8 and X and the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Indeed, it will be exhilarating to welcome the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL to the competitive arena of second-generation smartphones. Now that an unofficial date may be on the calendar, tech enthusiasts worldwide are certainly on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating what Google will unveil in October.
