A mysterious billboard ad in Boston sparked our curiosity. It hinted at the unveiling of Google’s new line of smartphones, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, on October 4th, 2017. With bated breath, tech enthusiasts worldwide were eagerly awaiting the grand event.
On the fateful day of October 4th, in the vibrant city of San Francisco, Google finally lifted the curtain from their much-hyped Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Crafted by Google in collaboration with their new partners, HTC, the original Pixel phones received a warm welcome from the tech community.
However, Google wasn’t content with just unveiling their new smartphones. They seized the opportunity to unveil an array of other cutting-edge devices such as the high-end Pixelbook, a Daydream view VR headset, and a home mini speaker. In order to compete with the likes of Apple in the smartphone market, Google has strategically partnered with HTC for design and manufacturing prowess.
Live Streaming Google’s Pixel 2 Launch Event
Reports describe the Pixel smartphones as a strong contender to the premium iPhone range. The unveiling, which commenced at 9:00 am (Pacific Time), was live-streamed on the company’s YouTube channel. This allowed everyone, regardless of their location, to join in and watch the event unfold in real time.
Highlighting Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were undoubtedly the stars of the event. With numerous leaks about the devices surfacing on the internet prior to their launch, the anticipation surrounding it was palpable. Google’s recent acquisition of HTC’s engineering and design team promises a consistent, high-quality design for future Pixel smartphones.
The Pixel 2 comes in two colors and has a design reminiscent of the original Pixel series. Equipped with thick bezels on top and bottom, a full HD display screen, a Snapdragon 835 processor chip, and storage options of 64GB and 128GB, the device doesn’t hold back. Further sweetening the deal, the Pixel 2 will be powered by the latest Android 8.0 Oreo operating system.
On the other hand, the Pixel 2 XL, manufactured by LG, boasts an edge-to-edge display on its 5.99-inch AMOLED screen. Fuelled by a Snapdragon 865 processor and a 4GB RAM, the Pixel 2 XL comes in a 128GB storage capacity. Similar to Pixel 2, it will also feature the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. The prices for these devices are speculated to be around $649 for Pixel 2 (64GB), $749 for Pixel 2 (128GB), $849 for the base Pixel 2 XL, and $949 for the top-end models.
Google PixelBook and Pixel Pen
The Pixelbook, Google’s premium metal-bodied Chromebook, can be folded into a tablet for versatility. The first Google device to house Google Assistant, it comes in three storage options – 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The Pixelbook runs on Chrome OS and, considering its expected performance, is priced competitively at $1,199, equivalent to the Apple MacBook Pro.
Google Daydream View 2 and Home Mini
The second-generation Daydream View 2 headset is another exciting product expected to be unveiled by Google. The upgraded VR headset will feature improved motion control and is rumored to come in two stylish colors. Priced at just $79, it is set to replace the previously launched Daydream View.
The Home Mini, expected to be the most affordable among Google’s new product lineup, is priced at just $49. The compact speaker is equipped with Google Assistant and is all set to compete with Echo Dot, one of the most popular affordable speakers in the market.
