It is nearly two years now after Apple released its Journal app in 2023 with the release of iOS 17, Google debuted a new journaling app known as the Pixel Journal during its Pixel 10 launch event.
Along with introducing the new gadgets, Google also debuted Pixelsnap, new AI tools like Magic Cue and Camera Coach, and a previously unnoticed Pixel Journal app during the event.
Pixel Journal provides a secure place to think back on and record ordinary occurrences. But unlike Apple’s approach, Pixel Journal is restricted to the tech giant’s most recent Pixel 10 series and is designed with AI at its core.
The app employs on-device AI models to provide “writing prompts that help you process your thoughts,” which include details on prior topics, memories, goals, and more. The on-device AI models are used by Google’s Pixel Journal to prompt users to carry out journal entries. Based on your objectives, memories, or previous entries, the app can also recommend writing suggestions. Its purpose is to help users develop the habit of self-reflection. You would Imagine launching the app and seeing a summary of your recent activities as well as which ones would make excellent journal entries. You should develop the habit of recording significant life events as a result of this.
In addition to recording your feelings, journal entries can also include pictures, places, and activities.
You won’t even need the AI to get started if you’re accustomed to keeping the journal.
Based on your writing habits, the Journal app will identify users writing patterns and style and give you several guides and ideas, according to the business. These include the number of entries in a month or a week, the longest entry by word count, and the time you often write your posts.
It mentioned that in order to keep other people from seeing your entries, you can also lock your journal app.
Users will be able to include images, activities, and related map locations in their submissions while writing down their ideas. With data on the most active journaling period, total entries, and the longest entry by word count, the app will provide you with insights on your own development as you continue to jot. The insights, which are separated into weekly and monthly perspectives, may provide an engaging means of comprehending your individual journaling experience and promote regularity.
Additionally, Google has made sure that your data is protected from prying eyes by including an option to lock the app, which is appropriate given that you will be writing down your most mindful thoughts which are private for recollection purposes. We will have to wait till we actually get our hands on a Pixel 10 series gadget before the tech giant explains how exactly it will operate.
Even while the software is only present and compatible with Pixel 10 series phones, Google may eventually make it available for earlier Pixel phones as well.
You only need to glance at Apple to see where Google most likely drew inspiration if the concept behind the Pixel’s Journal app seems familiar. When iOS 17.2 was released in late 2023, Apple released the Journal app for iPhones. More recently, the Journal app will be available for iPads and MacBooks with capabilities including cloud synchronisation thanks to iPadOS 26 and macOS 26. With the Journal app, Google is catching up to Apple and providing Pixel owners with a proprietary answer for their journaling needs.
