Google To Start Featuring Tweets In Its Search Engine On Mobile

Google announced on Tuesday that it tweets would start showing in its search and that was quickly greeted investors as Twitter stocks were up slightly on this announcement. Twitter has been struggling for a while to add users as it used to do and this has lead them to make a series of changes like Group Direct messaging, proposed “feed filter” among others. Acquisitions were not left out as Twitter acquired SnappyTV which helps you share moments in a short clip on the web. As at December last year, we reported that Facebook’s Instagram was already said to have more users than Twitter.

With this announcement though, it would be hard to think of how this doesn’t help Twitter as it is very likely to add more users to Twitter as well increase traffic to the site. A click on a search result for example takes you to the Twitter site/app in any case.

Potential Breakthrough

What makes this a big deal in my opinion is that the tweets come in real-time and this could be potentially big as starts and leaders alike make significant announcements on the platform. This means that I necessarily do not need to have the Twitter app for example to access important feeds but when I want to access a profile and other aspects, I would need to then sign up. Great move

A statement from Google reads “It’s a great way to get real-time info when something is happening. And it’s another way for organizations and people on Twitter to reach a global audience at the most relevant moments.
To start, we’re launching this on Google.com in English in the Google app (on Android and iOS) and on mobile browsers, rolling out gradually. We’re working on bringing it to more languages and to desktop, so stay tuned.”
