WhatsApp, the global messaging giant, has recently been de-ploying new user-friendly features to enhance your chatting experience. Just last month, it launched a web client and made a significant stride in browser compatibility by announcing support for Firefox and Opera, in addition to the existing Chrome support. This is the perfect time to steer you through the process of syncing your WhatsApp mobile chats to your preferred web browser. Do note, however, that this feature is currently unavailable for iOS users and Safari.

The procedure for setting up is refreshingly simple and quick, minimizing potential downtime from your riveting conversations. According to WhatsApp, the absence of support for iOS is due to certain “Apple platform limitations” – interpret that as you will.

Prior to beginning, it is crucial that you update your WhatsApp application on your Android, Windows Phone, or BlackBerry device to its latest version. Good news for those using Nokia S60 or S40, you too can jump onto this bandwagon!

WhatsApp desktop setup

Start by heading over to the new https://web.whatsapp.com portal on either Chrome, Firefox, or Opera. A large QR code will welcome you, ready for you to scan. Checking out the instructions below will show you how to access the scanner on your specific platform. For android users, it’s as easy as clicking ‘WhatsApp Web’ in the main WhatsApp menu.

Post scanning, you’ll find your conversations illustrated on your desktop screen almost instantly. A cool new feature allows you to toggle desktop notifications, customizing the way you receive chat alerts to suit your preference.

You can also customize your status by tapping your avatar, view contacts by clicking the message icon, and configure notifications using the menu button. The WhatsApp web version supports the use of emoticons and attachments, enabling quick upload of images from your computer or through a webcam. It also embraces the futuristic aspect of voice notes with its built-in microphone function.

In the spirit of Google Hangouts or Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp messages are now synced between your phone and the web. Considering the continuous exchange of chat information, keeping your mobile connected to Wi-Fi will help keep data expenditure minimal. Now you can enjoy the flexibility of mobile chatting on the move and the convenience of web chatting at home!
