“Introducing the $6800 Luxury Phone: A Shift from Flashy to Refined Aesthetics”

Previously targeted at a select elite with their ostentatious, diamond-encrusted designs, luxury smartphones are undergoing a revamp. Manufacturers have begun to shift focus, consciously evolving in their design approach to reach a wider audience and cater to their aspirations for high-end, yet subtle devices.

Unveiling this new trend, Vertu has introduced an exquisite smartphone named ‘Aster’, priced at a hefty £4,200 ($6,800/₦1,115,200.18). Known for its opulence, this latest Vertu offering has dived into subtlety without compromising on the element of luxury.

The Aster features a 5.1-inch screen made of sapphire crystal, and a titanium casing. These materials, more commonly used on high-end Swiss watches, are characterized by durability and prestige. Along with such premium materials, Vertu also offers its customers the ability to personalize their devices with a selection of exotic leathers, such as ostrich leather. Each Aster phone is hand-crafted for the client, further emphasizing the exclusivity integral to the brand.

Despite the pricey material selection, the Aster’s design significantly diverges from the diamond-draped flashy look Vertu was traditionally known for. This reinvention signals the company’s intent to magnetize a broader clientele who appreciate refined, rather than flamboyant, luxury.

Are Affordable Luxury Phones on the Horizon?
Historically, Vertu has catered to high-earning consumers in emerging markets like China and Russia, as well as certain regions in the Middle East. With global sales of luxury mobile phones surpassing $1 billion last year alone, according to Euromonitor, the high-end phone market is proving prosperous. Primary markets for these luxury devices include nations like China, Britain, the U.S, and the UAE.

Despite their high price point, the success of luxury smartphones suggests a thriving demand for devices that combine top-notch technology with exclusive materials and personalized design offerings. As Vertu spearheads this movement towards a subtler approach to luxury, only time will tell if other brands will follow suit, and perhaps introduce more affordable versions of these opulent devices.
