Ever found yourself dreading to retype a lengthy operation on your iPhone calculator simply because of a minor typo? Well, it seems there’s a hidden backspace feature that could save you all that trouble and it’s high time we shone a light on it.
This little-known trick was brought to wider attention on the 3rd of May by a diligent Twitter user going by the handle @censoredialogue. In a highly-circulated tweet, the user shared a video showing how iPhone calculator devotees can effortlessly backspace through numbers.
According to this Apple connoisseur, all you need to do is simply swipe left or right on the calculator’s display and voila! The annoyingly erroneous digit is promptly deleted. This nifty trick opens a world of efficiency that many Apple users seemed to have missed out on. Even more surprising is the fact that this feature is not new. In fact, it can be traced back to 2010 with the launch of iOS 4, as revealed in this Apple support post.
In hindsight, this may seem a little embarrassing – akin to the feeling of “I should have known, shouldn’t I?”. On the bright side, it’s apparent that many Apple users were sailing in the same boat unaware of the inception of this feature, given the fact that @censoredialogue’s post fetched over 34,000 likes within just six days of it being shared.
With such hidden features popping up only several years into the launch of an operating system, it’s exciting to think what other tricks and shortcuts are lying dormant within our devices, just waiting for inquisitive users to uncover?
