HMD Global Rolls Out Android 11 For Nokia 5.3 Later Than Expected

...the same HMD flagship smartphone that rolled out alongside the previous Android 10.

HMD Global has finally decided to roll out Android 11 OS for its Nokia 5.3 smartphones. Nokia’s parent company once revealed its intent to enable its current generation of gadgets to access the current Android versions at the time when Android 11 sets to fade out — the next android update rolls out this fall.

Nokia 5.3 powered by Android OS would have been more enticing if the Finnish smartphone maker had released Android 11 earlier than the second quarter of 2021. This device Nokia selected for upgrade reportedly rolled out alongside the previous Android OS update, Android 10.

Just as HMD Global enables its devices to access Android 11, the OS developer is releasing the 12th Android update to bolster its Android one project. This service Google projected is expected to enable smartphone makers powered by its OS to easily update its OEM systems.

Despite Google’s privilege on Android-enabled devices, Nokia has reportedly lagged in releasing updates for its devices — even HMD has not been updating its devices per Android One project. Although releasing Android 11 for Nokia 5.3 seems encouraging, it is better late than never.

The Finnish smartphone maker confirmed this news via its community forum — a blog post for announcements. It is worth noting that Nokia released a finite version of its Android 11 whereby only a selected region will receive this update, especially countries based in Asia, such as Malaysia, Macau, Laos, Hong Kong, India, etc.

Per the Nokia Community forum report; “30% of these approved markets will receive the update immediately, 50% by August 05, and on August 06, 100% of these markets will have received the Android 11 update,” including Cambodia, Switzerland, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Nepal.

HMD Global and Nokia confirmed Nokia 5.3 will be updated while this selected region receives Android 11, these updates will be available for global use, in the nearest future. By August 6th, the selected region should have received notification about Nokia’s latest OS update.
