HP Is Buying Gaming Accessory Brand Hyper X For $425 million

On Wednesday HP Inc. announced that it is buying gaming accessory supplier Hyper X for $425 million.

HyperX is among the best gaming accessory brands in the market. Its gaming accessories including its line of Cloud headsets, which are among the bestselling gaming headsets presently. Apart from its gaming headsets, HyperX’s portfolio has a variety of gaming accessories from gaming keyboards to USB microphones, mice and console accessories. Most recently, HyperX announced its first 60 percent mechanical gaming keyboard.

The Hyper X gaming company is technically a gaming division of Kingston Technology Company.

HP Inc. sees the deal as a medium through which the company can be grounded in the gaming market, as well as a means to achieve advancement and growth in its Personal Systems business. The company expressed its excitement over the arrival, or inclusion, of Hyper X gaming company into its HP family.

Enrique Lores, HP Chief Executive said, “HyperX is a leader in peripherals whose technology is trusted by gamers around the world and we’re thrilled to welcome their outstanding team to the HP family. We continue to advance our leadership in Personal Systems by modernizing compute experiences and expanding into valuable adjacencies. We see significant opportunities in the large and growing peripherals market, and the addition of HyperX to our portfolio will drive new sources of innovation and growth for our business.”

HP’s existing PC gaming products include its OMEN brand and related hardware, software, content and services. This includes the OMEN 15 gaming laptop and the OMEN Gaming Hub.  By adding Hyper X into its family, HP believes that it will broaden its gaming sphere and help deliver products across all gaming touchpoints.

HP Inc. is expected to close the deal with Kingston Technology Company (Hyper X parent company) in the second quarter. Under the terms of the agreement, HP will own HyperX’s gaming peripherals portfolio while Kingston will retain the DRAM, flash, and SSD products for gamers and enthusiasts. HP’s deal with Kingston Technology Company js expected to be sealed soon, pending regulatory review and other customary closing conditions.
