Instagram Tests AI-Powered Text Restyling Tool

Instagram is releasing a significant update that inserts Meta AI directly into the Stories editor, enabling users to alter images and videos with straightforward text suggestions. By integrating visual AI effects into the Stories production process, the new tools remove AI editing from chatbot mode and integrate it into regular publishing.

This new feature launched Restyle with features on Instagram is apparently being tested. This feature, which is driven by Meta AI, is presently accessible via the Edits app and Stories. Like Google’s Nano Banana image model, it lets users add, remove, or modify objects in a picture or video at the touch of a button. In addition, users can immediately alter their content by using one of the numerous pre-made designs. The Meta-owned platform now intends to incorporate bespoke text into the Restyle tool, according to the article.

Instagram has begun testing the Restyle Text tool with a limited user base, according to a Mashable article. The feature lets users create their own fonts in response to natural language cues, as the name implies. It is said that users would receive a few pre-made presets for the feature, like Balloon and Chrome. The report also noted that they can create a prompt to produce original and eccentric styles.

The social networking platform just released the Restyle tool. Like the Nano Banana, it gives customers a comparable amount of inline editing capabilities because to the company’s in-house generative AI models. Using Instagram, users can touch on the paintbrush icon in the upper right corner of Stories after uploading an image. A horizontal scrolling of the options will reveal additional options at the bottom, including Add, Remove, Change, and a number of preset styles.

Users will soon have the option to customise their Stories using distinctive fonts, according to the article. The article emphasised that users can create a text with a party hat on top of each letter by providing an example. Other instances that have been given include the balloon-like look and the shiny chrome effect.

Short video clips can also be styled using the same Restyle feature that is available in the Edits app. Videos created with AI effects can be imported using the same options.

The Stories interface’s paintbrush icon is where the new tools are located. By tapping it, users can access a “Restyle” menu where they can instruct Meta AI with natural language instructions. The technology enables users to explore creatively without switching apps, everything from adding accessories and changing hair colour to changing the tone of a scene or replacing entire backgrounds.

Instagram now offers a number of preset effects in addition to text-driven adjustments. These include AI-powered artistic filters that may redraw clothes, apply painting or cinematic styles, or even breathe life into videos by animating motion elements like fire, rain, or snow.

Meta’s upgraded AI terms of service, which give the system permission to process and alter submitted content, including faces and environments, in order to make modifications, must be accepted in order to use the new AI features.

Meta’s generative AI ecosystem has clearly expanded with this upgrade, moving beyond text-based communication and into the core of social content production. Instagram isn’t stopping there. The firm is also experimenting AI-powered comment suggestions and expanding the Meta AI app’s “Vibes” AI video stream, which has apparently increased engagement.

The company’s wider safety focus as it explores with generative technology is reflected in Meta’s addition of new parental supervision options to track how teenagers use Instagram’s AI-driven features in addition to these creative tools.

Instagram’s integration of AI editing into Stories eliminates the barrier between uploading and creativity. This development puts Meta in a more competitive position as social media companies compete to incorporate AI-powered creativity at the centre of user experience, while also making visual storytelling easier.
