With the recent announcement of Apple’s iPhone X and iPhone 8 (Including the 8 Plus variant), much of the focus was understandably on the new hardware. However, it’s vital to note that the software powering these devices, namely the iOS 11, has been in the public knowledge for a pretty good time now.

Unveiled at the annual WWDC conference in June, Apple’s iOS 11 appears set to take a significant stride forward from its predecessors. The software upgrade promises multifaceted improvements, with Apple proclaiming it as “a giant leap for iPhone” and “a monumental leap for iPad”. The technology giant confirmed that iOS 11 would be available for all current owners of certain models of their phones and tablets to install from the 19th of September, before the new iPhones hit the market.

iOS 11 Features

Apple has loaded the forthcoming iOS 11 with a host of exciting features. These include a redesigned control center and App store, a “do not disturb while driving” feature, and a new messaging interface. Other anticipated improvements consist of a smarter Siri, an enhanced camera and gallery display system, among others. The company also hinted at special features exclusively for iPad users, which primarily focus on boosting the utility and productivity of the iPad, thereby enhancing its performance.
