Mastering the Art of iOS Portfolio Design: A Comprehensive Guide

I’ve previously discussed the fundamentals of creating a top-notch [UI portfolio](https://www.toptal.com/designers/ui/portfolios#portfolio-guide) and also outlined how to craft an impressive [iPhone portfolio](https://www.toptal.com/designers/iphone/portfolios#portfolio-guide). Interestingly, the latter shares significant overlap with this guide, and I would highly recommend checking it out. The more options you know, the better you’re equipped to deliver excellent work!

![iOS Devices](https://assets.toptal.io/uploads/blog/image/121110/toptal-blog-image-1472485469628-15c488ec437a4960931eshow them together side by side to show differences. After all, no matter how responsive it might look, there are contrasts between one device and the other.

Another notable difference is the elements present in different devices. iPhones have exclusive features not available on an iPad, for instance, the ‘**popovers**’. As per the [iOS Developer Library](https://developer.apple.com/develop/), popovers are a visual layer that floats above the app’s window, primarily used for displaying information or managing frequently accessed tools. However, popovers are uniquely used on iPads. It’s thus crucial to consider such device-specific elements when designing across different devices sharing the same OS and to illustrate these differences in your iOS-based portfolio.

Ultimately, understanding the [Apple Human Interface Guidelines](https://developer.apple.com/ios/human-interface-guidelines/) is highly beneficial. Once you’ve thoroughly researched and comprehended them, you can bend the rules creatively to craft intuitive user and visual experiences.

So, what’s the secret sauce to creating the best iOS portfolio out there? It’s more straightforward than you think: understand the system, the guidelines, observe and learn. Navigate through multiple screens and use different elements to understand the OS’s functionality. Once you integrate this knowledge into your designs, your projects will not only be clean, organized, and praiseworthy but also distinguishable from regular portfolios.

Review the key points mentioned above and don’t forget to visit these additional guides to further understand [portfolio building](https://www.toptal.com/designers/ui/portfolios#portfolio-guide) and the specifics of [iPhone portfolios](https://www.toptal.com/designers/iphone/portfolios#portfolio-guide).

With these guiding principles, you’ll be well on your way to creating an iOS portfolio that is sure to impress both clients and colleagues alike. As an iOS designer, you have the unique opportunity to shape user experiences across a variety of Apple devices – make it count!
