The Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria, IXPN, has reportedly added the Central Bank of Nigeria, Orange Telecom, Huawei Cloud and several other companies to its list of networks it hosts on its servers.

The IXPN has reportedly gained over 80 networks interconnected to its server. These additional networks have given the exchange an upper hand whereby it represents a universal server that accepts multiple networks for hosting with a single connection, according to the Chief Executive Officer of IXPN, Muhammed Rudman.

An Internet exchange point (IX or IXP) is the physical infrastructure through which Internet service providers (ISPs) and content delivery networks (CDNs) exchange Internet traffic among their networks (autonomous systems) and peer together. Typically, IXPs occupy standalone buildings with their own switches.

Other companies that make up the list include Orange Telecoms, Proline Technologies, Ciudad Infrastructure Limited, Choice2mobile Technologies Limited, and Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited. While Rudman encouraged more Nigerian companies to embrace domestic servers rather than depend on foreign severs with extra expenses.

“We are delighted to have these seven reputable Network Operators recently join the exchange point.” While advocating for Nigerian based server, he made it worth noting that domestic server is faster and secure — the payment for this service will also be easy due to currency homogeneity, which is likely to bolster Nigeria’s digital economy “This, for us, is a pointer that the call for Internet domestication by IXPN, some stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians is being responded to, positively”

Rudman also disclosed that its traffic has gravely been improved (220 Gbps from 125 Gbps in 2020). While his exchange company currently covers eight Points of Presence, PoPs, in Nigeria, including, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kano, and Enugu.

The sever in Lagos remains the most with high capacity with adequate redundancy. While the Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC, has also consorted with Rudman’s Agency to stabilize the domestic Internet traffic server while the IXPN has reportedly acquired  Switches capable of 25Gbps, 40Gbps, and 100Gbps ports capacity for its entire network in Lagos.
