Samsung has reportedly crossed paths with the Kenyan regulatory system for defaulting its policy that mandates gadget manufacturers’ compliance with items completion of product packaging with custom OEM accessories. The Korean smartphone maker is added to the Kenyan’s policy defaulters list for selling phones without chargers — a vital item that makes a packaged product standard with complete items per the brand’s status.

In Kenya Selling products like gadgets packaged without OEM accessories such as hands-free earpieces, chargers inclusive as USB cords & AC adapters, etc, is registered as a punishable offense by local regulations. The Kenyan socioeconomic status isn’t regulated with a flexible policy for foreign companies which is ideal in terms of evading the economic transition to a dumping ground.

However, it has been a norm in the manufacturing ecosystem to package a device as the only item they brand with an exemption to other wired or wireless OEM accessories. This is an impact of the 2020 pandemic influenza that paused the world’s economy all year with several factories temporarily closed, likewise cross-border multilateral relations until the plague passed.

At the time, major socioeconomic relations were partially reinstated such as factories working with a minimal workforce, while country borders remained closed for production distribution. This impacted a global revenue dip that got Apple to frontier selling gadgets without OEM accessories to evade amassed expenditure of huge wages paid to packagers with restrictions on product distribution.

The consideration to minimize manufacturing cost impacted the norm in the manufacturing market to distribute products packaged as separate items whereby OEM chargers will be sold differently from the device to alter profit. The post-pandemic frontier market transition by juggernaut tech companies including Samsung sells reduced standard of a product for a hiked price for the sake of making ends meet up to dipped revenue status.

The Kenyan regulatory system despises this trend of skyrocketing business earnings on defaulting its policy that reprimands the norm among gadget makers to respect its local market standards. Still, Samsung’s adamant product distribution on “the AC Adaptor for a mobile cellular device should be equipped with a fitting and suitable power supply cord and mains plug that conforms to the standards established by the regulatory entity responsible for electricity in Kenya.”
