Kwese TV Launches In Nigeria; Partners With MTN For Distribution

TSTV appears to have rung the alarm to pave way for a new broadcast network, Kwese Pay TV. To distribute their new product with ease, the broadcasting network has partnered with Nigeria’s largest telecommunications company, MTN on the sale of their decoders.

Kwese TV made an official announcement that their decoders and kits are now available on any MTN store. Interestingly, the Pay TV is gifting its new subscribers two months’ free subscription, which is valid until December 29 with a condition to pay only N1,590 in addition to the proposed N10,960.

A couple of MTN stores in Lagos have begun selling the decoders – Y’ello City Service Centre, Ikeja service Centre, Palm Connect and Matori Centre. ‘‘Following the recent launch of our Pay TV service in Nigeria, this partnership extends our distribution network and makes out products accessible to even more Nigerian consumers. We are currently operating in selected flagship stores in Lagos, and we will be available in other major cities across the country in 2018 in partnership with MTN’’, Elizabeth Amkpa, the General Manager for Kwese TV said.

This launch is a great way to console many Nigerians who had high hopes in TSTV. Although it doesn’t come with exaggerated freebies like TSTV promised, Kwese comes with a flexible payment plan and 70 channels for entertainment. The much anticipated pay-as-you-watch option is also included in its subscription packages. The flexible payment plan includes N990 for 3 days, N1850 for 7 days and N6,275 for 30 days.

In as much as the Zimbabwean owned broadcast network service is offering a flexible payment plan and the much-anticipated pay-per-view option, it appears that the charges are not competitive enough. GOTV, DSTV’s subsidiary offers a far lesser subscription charge with exciting channels to keep consumers entertained, including children’s favourite stations and live sports. This may be just an observation from a distance. Perhaps, the channels and the proposed world-class customer service is worth the price.

Nevertheless, the General Manager, Enterprise Marketing, MTN Nigeria Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka expressed her gratitude and promised that collaboration will produce a world-class digital service for Nigerians. ‘This is part of our efforts to continue to deliver innovative services to Nigerians through our wide distribution network across the country- in consonance with the MTN vision to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world’.
