Buhari Appoints Lai Mohammed To Head The Negotiation With Reversing The Twitter Ban

The indefinite suspension on Twitter by the federal government of Nigeria is set to end sooner or later. President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly consented to the social media company to have a sit-down with arbitrators he appointed today, to discuss the suspension and its terms of further operations within the country, Techbooky reports.

According to Buhari’s notice, this process of arbitration to restore Twitter to its Nigerian users will be led by the team he assembled today, which comprises of Minister of Information and Culture — Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Federation and Honourable Minister of Justice —Abubakar Malami, Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy — Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs — Geoffrey Jideofor Onyeama, and more appointed ministers to represent Nigeria in the process of advocating with Twitter.

Among these appointed representatives of Nigeria, it worth noting that the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed will represent this team as the Chairman according to Buhari’s orders. Pantami who is believed to be experienced in dealing with issues that concerns information and technology — also revealed this update in his announcement today.

Remember, Twitter was banned in Nigeria days ago after the owner of the social media deleted a tweet shared by the Nigerian president because he was influencing the public wrongly with his political position.

However, President Buhari believes that Twitter’s “operations and the activities on the bird app are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.” Buhari was expected to encounter the same tragedy the previous American president, Donald Trump encountered when he was banned for promoting violence — nonetheless, this is a perfect scenario about the limitations of foreign policies.

Still, Twitter inc. anticipates resuming service in Nigeria due to its vast number of users — “Today marks one week since Twitter was blocked in Nigeria. We have informed the Nigerian government that we are ready to meet for an open discussion to address mutual concerns and see the service restored.”

Since Twitter was restricted in Nigeria, several users have reportedly accessed their respective profiles with VPN, which the federal government of Nigeria classified as an illegal act.

Twitter users based in Nigeria now socialize with fear, which is expected to end sooner than later — in line with the drafted conditions by the Nigerian government, expected of Twitter to adhere, to initiate the reversal of the ban.
