Lenovo launched its Yoga Book Tablet last week at a time when there’s so negative press around the tablet. This is evident in the last IDC tablet market report which shows that while Apple still leads in that space, overall demand keeps falling. Apple and Samsung who are the two biggest players actually recorded a negative year on year growth while the second runner up Lenovo saw a 3.1 percent growth year on year even though the numbers in terms of shipment units still come far behind those of Apple and Samsung which stood at 10 and 6 million respectively compared to Lenovo’s 2.5 million. But is that about to change as the company released its Yoga Book last week at the IFA even in Berlin, Germany.

Here are the hands on features the Yoga Book has;

  • Display: 10.1 inch 1080p touchscreen
  • Camera: 8 megapixel
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB with a microSD slot for expansion
  • Network: Wi-Fi with LTE options in some markets
  • Operating System: Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with possibility of updating to the latest Android flavor; Nougat. Windows is also another OS that the Yoga Book comes in as well.
  • Processor: Intel Atom x5 Processor built for tablets and smartphones. The brands using this processor includes Microsoft’s Surface 3, HP Elite Pad, Asus and Acer among others.
  • Battery: 8500mAh battery that should last for up to 15 hours of general use

Uniqueness

It has a flat keyboard called Halo Keyboard. It’s a full touch screen backlit keyboard that weaves software and hardware into one fluid interface. The touch screen is made with glass that was meticulously chosen to give a rough, matte feel and finish, along with anti-glare coating to ensure the best possible touch-typing experience. The keyboard lacks any physical keys, showing up as a solid white outline on the Yoga Book’s second panel only when it’s needed. The halo keyboard constantly ‘learns about and adapts to’ the typing habits of its user, with built-in prediction and artificial learning software. This software also allows for continuous optimization.

It has a state-of-the-art electro-magnetic resonance (EMR) film housed within the multi-use keyboard, which enables this real-time digitization. The real-pen accessory can draw with the precision of a pencil or paintbrush, with 2,048 pressure levels and 100-degree angle detection. In addition, you’ll never have to charge or replace it – the real-pen accessory doesn’t require batteries and its ink can be replaced with standard ink tips, just like that of a conventional pen.

The Yoga Book weighs just 680 grams and is 9.6mm thick.

Price starts at $549/214,000 Naira/ 58,000 KES for the Windows version and for Android, its $499/194,000 Naira /53,000 KES. That’s if you take the Naira at 390 to the dollar.
