LinkedIn Surpasses 500 Million User Mark, A Sharp Rise of 33 Million In Just Six Months

LinkedIn, the globally recognized professional social networking site, reported hitting a significant milestone recently. In a blog post yesterday, the company confirmed that it has now amassed over 500 million registered users across 200 countries, witnessing a surge of 33 million new members since October 2016.

This announcement is the first major one since LinkedIn closed a $26.2 billion acquisition deal with Microsoft in December last year.

Since its inception, LinkedIn has continued to evolve and, just earlier this year, rolled out a large-scale site revamp inspired by its user-friendly mobile app. This successful makeover is believed to have contributed to an impressive 250 million monthly active users (MAUs) on the platform.

Commemorating the milestone of half a billion users, LinkedIn is launching the “My Network” feature. This new tool offers stats on the users’ connections and also suggests potential connections. Essentially, it serves as an interactive network growth guide for the users.

In recent months, LinkedIn has pushed to add more enticing features aimed at optimizing the job-seeking experience. The networking giant introduced features that may potentially make it easier for its users to browse job openings discreetly without catching the attention of their current employers. Additionally, LinkedIn is encouraging its users to disclose salary details, aiming to foster transparent discussions about compensation and attract more job applicants.

LinkedIn’s user base is not confined to one particular region. In fact, its latest data shows a diverse user distribution, with the United Arab Emirates topping the list of most connected countries. Following close behind are three European powerhouses – the Netherlands, UK, and Denmark, respectively. Predictably, recruitment and staffing emerge as the top sectors leveraging LinkedIn.

Moving forward, we may not see separate LinkedIn earning reports as the professional networking site now comes under the purview of Microsoft.

Emphasizing the need for continued growth and engagement, LinkedIn is constantly innovating in its pursuit to stay connected and relevant within this ever-digitizing professional world.
