Twitter, the giant microblogging network, is further expanding its features, offering users the ability to live stream their content directly to their followers through the integration of Periscope, its popular live streaming service. This new development was unveiled in a Twitter announcement, promising to revolutionize the way both individuals and brands connect with their audience.

Now, the ‘Live Broadcast’ button is accessible to everyone right inside the Twitter app, creating a user-friendly approach towards live streaming. Should a user need to download Periscope upon clicking the live button, they are seamlessly redirected for installation. But for those already on Periscope, a quick dive into the app it is. Currently, this feature is available to both iOS and Android users, allowing for a wide pool of Twitter’s mobile community to partake in the live streaming experience.

Periscope, which officially went live in March 2015, has since seen a surge of user-generated content – from special moments, informational broadcasts, to trending events. As an astonishing testament to its success, Periscope users have till date generated 200 million broadcasts and have chalked up watch times to 110 years worth of live streams on a daily basis.

The rise of live broadcasting has seen social media platforms such as Facebook, with their Facebook Live feature, and Amazon’s Twitch and YouTube all add live streaming to their repertoire. Businesses and brands around the globe are reaping the benefits of this feature, allowing for a dynamic, real-time connection with their customer base. However, Twitter’s seamless integration of Periscope within its app sets it apart and marks a significant milestone in the evolution of live stream media opportunities on social media.

Whether you are a brand striving to foster a stronger connection with your client base or an individual aiming to share your world with followers in real time, Twitter’s in-app live broadcasting feature will undeniably play an essential part in your social media toolkit.
