Lossless Music, Dolby Atmos May Come To Apple Homepod Soon

Apple has some good news for HomePod users. The tech giant has reintroduced lossless support and Dolby Atmos with Spatial Audio support to its smart speakers. HomePod is that smart speaker by Apple that takes up almost no space and yet delivers room‑filling sound. It’s a breakthrough speaker with high‑fidelity audio that adapts to its location. Whether it is the Hompod or the Homepod Mini, both help you take care of everyday tasks with Siri, control your smart home, set up multi-room audio, and send Intercom messages to every room. HomePod and HomePod mini would keep everything private and secure, and only listen for “Hey Siri.” Apple introduced Apple Music Lossless and Spatial Audio in May this year, the company then said that the HomePod mini and the HomePod will receive the support later. The company then added lossless support in the beta, but then removed it before the official release of software version 15.

Reports making rounds online suggested that Apple has again added lossless support for the HomePod and HomePod Mini. According to this report, Apple has once again introduced both the features in the beta version 15.1. It is expected that with the final version both the features will come with Apple smart speakers.

Users who are running HomePod beta software can now enable the feature in the Home app by tapping on Home Settings, Media, and Apple Music. For those unaware, Lossless music includes the audio files that manage to keep the original data when a particular song was composed. A lot of the songs when compressed lose the ‘originality’ — something that Lossless audio files preserve. Apple uses ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) to preserve every single bit of the original audio file. This means fans will be able to hear their favorite songs exactly the way the artists created them in the studio.

Spatial Audio, on the other hand, is an immersive sound technology that makes the experience more life-like and better, the Netflix app on iOS already shares this feature that makes users’ experience even better. Netflix confirms that it rolled out Spatial Audio support to its iOS users. With Spatial Audio compatibility currently being rolled out on iOS, your favorite shows on Netflix will now sound as good as they look. However, Spatial Audio on Android will work with only phones that support Dolby Atmos.
