A Proven Solution for Using iPhone Headphones with Xbox One Controllers

A particularly astute Xbox One gamer has discovered and shared a viable solution to the longstanding issue of incompatible iPhone headphones with Xbox One’s controllers.

Since its announcement back in June 2015, Microsoft had been progressively producing a new wave of Xbox One controllers, notable for introducing a 3.5mm headphone port. However, a recurring issue was soon evident among users. iPhone headphones, once plugged into the novel port, would produces continuous, irritating static noise, undermining the overall gaming experience.

The underlying reason for this unexpected issue lies in Apple’s untraditional configuration of the ‘mic’ and ‘ground’ connections on its headphone jack. Unlike the standard configurations seen in most headphone systems, Apple has these two components switched on its headphone connection jack.

One vigilant Xbox One gamer has come up with an ingeniously simple workaround to get the iPhone headphones to function optimally on the Xbox One controller. By inserting the headphones and then promptly double-tapping the Guide button, users can navigate to the settings page, thereby unveiling additional audio options.

The key to resolving the static noise bug is to simply disable the “Headset Mic” option and set the “Mic Monitoring” slider down to zero. Upon performing these steps, the static sound from iPhone headphones instantly disappears, thereby restoring unsurpassed audio quality.

Furthermore, aside from the added 3.5mm headphone port, the new line of controllers have been praised for their “fine-tuned” bumpers for more consistent and satisfying tactile feedback. Additionally, Microsoft has given gamers the ability to update the controller’s firmware without the previously necessary wired connection to the console. Instead, updates can now be comfortably downloaded wirelessly.

Lastly, the premium $150 Xbox One Elite controller, which launched in October 2015, has been met with overwhelming demand according to Microsoft. Retailers sold out their stock almost immediately upon launch. Despite continuous shipments throughout subsequent months, supplies remain constrained due to the relentless demand.

This innovative workaround for iPhone headphones truly serves as a testament to the power of the gaming community, as gamers continue to come up with creative solutions to enhance their gaming experience.
