Google Maps Now Feature Indoor Live View Mode

...this expansion also elevates user experience with navigation

Maps extend its experience to a broader user base across Asia, Japan to be precise — this update features AR navigation that displays live inside complex buildings. Google initially introduced this concept in March for its users based in the States — Maps indoor Live View featured exclusively in malls.

Now, Indoor Live View is coming to transit stations in Japan — it is also likely to feature in malls as well. However, Google used global localization systems, AI, your existing street view imagery to match your current location, and your device camera to power the previously existed Outdoor Live View mode.

Now, the tech company has integrated similar technology to actualize the same Live AR navigation experience with outdoor features. Remember the early days of 2021 when Google hinted about Map’s forthcoming improvements that are expected to wow its users.

“If you’re catching a plane or a train, Live View can help you find the nearest elevator and excavate, your gate, platform,  baggage claim, check-in counters, ticket office, restroom, etc.”

It worth noting that the regular Map view will be below the screen while the arrow and directions navigate you to your preferred direction from your current location.

When you face where the app directs you, an animated arrow shows detailed emphasis while navigating you. Then the typical Map pin pops up immediately you reach your destination.

Google has already mapped out its list of transit stations in Japan that will feature its Indoor Live View — this feature will help Japanese users to locate the various transfer levels in transit stations. The Search Giant insisted they would make this feature accessible to entire Japan while global use will also be developed in the future.

Although this Indoor Live View will be available for both iOS and Android users,  Google promoted this expansion for outdoor AR navigation with extra Indoor navigation while Apple prepares to introduce an outdoor AR navigation experience, alongside is iOS 15 updates.
