Facebook parent company, Meta Inc, has confirmed the disengagement from its work force the Manager of it’s Global Community Development, Jeren A. Miles.

Mr Miles drew the ire of the general public when he appeared in a viral video on YouTube, featuring him in a sting operation conducted by amateurs with the intent of catching paedophiles.

The Video which was greeted with strong condemnation from the majority of the populace was posted by an amateur group known as PCI Predator Catchers Indianapolis on its YouTube page.

Former Meta Global Community Development Head, Jeren A. Miles

Even though the 2-hour video do not exactly indicate Miles being directly involved in any sexual act, nor depict Miles admitting to carry out any specific sex act, appearing in the obnoxious footage put to question his stance on paedophilic assault. It remains unclear what the legal implications of his appearance in the video will be.

The footage though feature Miles being questioned by two people and in the middle of the interrogation, he admitted having graphic and inappropriate communications with a 13-year-old boy.

The public reaction was so ferocious and damning that Miles  deleted his social profiles on Facebook and Twitter.

Although there are uncertainties on if he was fired by Meta or he left his role on his own.

A Meta’s spokesman in a statement confirming that Miles no longer work with the company said:

”The seriousness of these allegations cannot be overstated. The individual is no longer employed with the company. We are actively investigating this situation and cannot provide further comment at this time”.

With the Mark Zuckerberg brand being hit by various controversies over the years; from lawsuits to stories relating to data protection and privacy, troubled product executions, even falling engagement numbers, the recent drama over Miles indiscretion is not something the social media giant will want to be embroiled with, at least for now.

The Whistleblower espouse on how Meta prioritize profit over users welfare dealt a huge blow on the overall credibility of the brand, aside other damning accusations.

The company aware of its battered image in recent times has been shoring up its PR department; one of such is the naming of Nick Clegg, a former U.K political figure as the President of Global Affairs.

A hard stance on Miles action would be one of the statements the company will be making.
