With TikTok’s future uncertainty the social media app has remained active for U.S. users, the platform is still technically banned under the Senate-approved measure, and President Trump has yet to negotiate a new deal. Meta has launched an aggressive effort to entice TikTok creators with large financial bonuses and new tools to improve content development and dissemination. It’s unclear whether the campaign will succeed as Meta is attracting TikTok producers to its platforms with the prospect of monetary bonuses, content deals, and help building their networks. On Tuesday, the firm revealed that eligible TikTok producers can earn “up to” $5,000 in bonuses over three months by uploading Reels on Facebook and Instagram.
These creators will also have access to Facebook’s Content Monetization platform, which allows them to monetize their films, images, and text posts on Facebook. Meta will also provide TikTok creators content partnerships to help them build their followers on Instagram and Facebook.
Some TikTok creators will also be granted a one-year trial of Meta Verified, which includes a verified badge, account support, and impersonation prevention. (The corporation did not disclose the criteria for who will have access). This could be troubling for many TikTok creators who rely on the app for money. Meta is now attempting to attract this group over to Instagram with a new bonus scheme for TikTok creators that migrate.
While TikTok is back online in the United States following a 12-hour outage over the weekend, the ByteDance-owned social network is still missing from app stores. Although President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Monday delaying the TikTok ban deadline by 75 days and instructing the Department of Justice not to enforce the ban’s sanctions, it is unclear when (or if) the app will return to Apple and Google app stores.
Over the weekend, Meta quietly began contacting TikTok authors with a new offer known as the “Breakthrough Bonus” scheme. Meta is certainly using TikTok’s present problems by recruiting and enticing some of the service’s inventors.
The business also announced modifications to Reels to make the short-form video format more appealing to TikTok creators. For example, Instagram producers in the United States can now share Reels that are up to three minutes long, a significant increase from the prior limit of 90 seconds. On TikTok, however, creators can record movies up to 10 minutes long and, in some situations, publish content up to an hour long.
Meta says it has enhanced its ranking techniques to help newbie TikTok creators reach new fans.
Meta will also allow creators to display their Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube handles, as well as follower numbers, in their Facebook pages to increase their credibility on the network.
Meta has already made other improvements to take advantage of TikTok’s present uncertainties in the United States.
On Sunday, Meta announced that it will debut Edits, a CapCut-like software, next month. On Friday, it released improvements to help Instagram users identify Reels that their friends and followers are loving on the network. The app will also encourage users to start conversations about Reels via a new “reply bar.”
The new approach will give producers with significant followings on other apps (such as TikTok) the ability to immediately begin earning more money by submitting their material directly to Facebook and Instagram instead.
“The Breakthrough incentive program is designed for creators who are new to Facebook and Instagram. Accepted creators will be able to make money on reels, longer videos, images, and text posts right away through Facebook’s invite-only Content Monetization program, as well as up to $5,000 in additional Breakthrough bonuses to help them get started within the first 90 days.
Which could be a great method for Meta to capitalize on TikTok’s instability and uncertainty.
How It works :
- Meta’s Breakthrough Bonus allows migrating creators to earn up to $5,000 in total bonuses during their first 90 days of posting to Facebook and Instagram, in addition to Meta’s existing creator monetization opportunities.
- Creators applying for the program will be able to share details of their presence in other apps, with the size of their following/s on those other platforms dictating how much Meta will pay each participant in bonuses (Meta will calculate individual bonuses “based on an evaluation of your social presence”).
- Creators must then share at least 20 reels on Facebook and 10 reels on Instagram on a daily basis for a period of 30-day to earn the bonus period.
- Content posted must be original and unavailable on other social media apps.
In addition to these advantages, Meta is offering complimentary one-year subscriptions to Meta Verified to select users, as well as new Facebook profile displays of follower counts in other apps (including Instagram, YouTube, and, of course, TikTok).
That might draw a lot of jittery TikTokers to its platforms, and Meta is also seeking to highlight its continuous support for creators to inspire greater interest:
“In the past year, Facebook has paid content creators more than $2 billion for reels, longer videos, photo and text posts, and we are committed to helping creators thrive on our platform.”
And that is not all. Meta claims that in the coming months, it will also provide exclusive content arrangements to TikTok creators to help them develop their communities on Instagram and Facebook.
It’s an appealing proposition, and with TikTok still under major scrutiny, you can assume that at least some creators will reconsider their options and hunt for a more stable contract.
As such, it’s a wise move from Meta, which has also added a number of new Instagram components to better align IG’s tools with those accessible on TikTok.
This might make Instagram the ideal platform for TikTok developers.
There’s still a long way to go, and many people will be waiting to learn more about Trump’s plan to salvage the app. However, you should expect to see a lot more of your TikTok favourites in your Instagram feed.
