On Thursday, Meta told members of the press that it is testing a standalone Vibes app. Vibes, which was introduced in September of last year, allows you to produce and distribute short-form AI-generated videos as well as see a special feed that features AI videos from other users. Vibes, Meta’s platform for AI-generated short-form video, on the success of its original release within the Meta AI app.
Imagine Instagram Reels or TikTok, except all of the videos you see are artificial intelligence (AI) produced. The stream has been housed within the Meta AI app up until this point. The business is portraying Vibes as a more direct rival to OpenAI’s AI-generated video and social app, Sora, which debuted soon after Vibes, by making it accessible outside of the Meta AI app.
In an email statement, Meta stated, “We are testing a standalone app to build on the strong early traction of Vibes within Meta AI.” Users are using the format more and more to produce, find, and share AI-generated video with their friends, according to our data. This stand-alone app offers a specific location for that experience, giving users a more concentrated and engaging setting. Based on the community’s feedback, we want to further develop the app.
Platformer was the first to report the news.
Although Meta doesn’t provide exact figures, it says Vibes has done well and that the use of Meta AI has been increasing consistently since its release, which it says indicates a need for stand-alone software.
A stand-alone app enables a more focused experience for production and engagement, the tech giant adds, even though users interact with material in Meta AI.
Vibes allows users to remix videos they see on their feed or create original videos. You can change styles, add new images, and add music layers before publishing. After that, you have the option to cross-post the video to Facebook Stories and Reels, DM other people, or post it straight to the Vibes stream.
Many Vibes movies are being messaged to friends, which Meta claims reflects how users use Reels, indicating an increase in collaboration and sharing.
It’s important to note that last week, Meta informed members of the press that it would investigate subscriptions for AI capabilities like Vibes in addition to exploring new premium subscriptions on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Meta intends to provide freemium access to Vibes video creation, with the option to subscribe in order to unlock more video creation opportunities each month, even though Vibes has been free since its launch. These trial subscriptions will be made available by Meta in the upcoming months.
Without “cluttering” its primary social feeds, Meta hopes to establish a targeted space for AI testing by repurposing Vibes into its own app. The action is also perceived as a direct reaction to rivals such as Sora from OpenAI, which has unveiled its own AI video social network.
