Microsoft and OpenAI have announced a major restructuring of their multibillion-dollar partnership ending key elements like revenue sharing and exclusivity that once tightly bound the two companies together.
At the centre of the new agreement is a clear shift: Microsoft will no longer share revenue with OpenAI from products built on its technology, marking a dramatic change from earlier terms where the two companies’ financial futures were closely intertwined.

For OpenAI, it unlocks broader market access and reduces dependency on one partner. For Microsoft, it reduces financial exposure while allowing it to diversify its AI strategy and address regulatory concerns around dominance.
