Microsoft Expands Cross-Platform Reach: Iconic Solitaire Game Now Free for iOS and Android Users

A timeless classic is making a grand leap from PC to handheld devices: Microsoft’s iconic and universally adored game, Solitaire, is now going to be available for free to iOS and Android users. Having run with immense popularity for 26 years on Windows, the decision to make the game cross-platform aligns perfectly with Microsoft’s vision of broader accessibility, and the timing couldn’t be better with the holiday season just around the corner.

Initially developed in 1989 by then-Microsoft intern Wes Cherry for Windows 3, which launched the following year, Solitaire has grown into a virtual institution. The game boasts about 120 million players across Windows 8 and 10, securing its status as one of the most played games of all time. Just as gaming juggernaut Nintendo has brought Super Mario to iOS, Microsoft is setting its sights on making a similar splash in the competitive mobile gaming market.

iOS and Android users will not only get the beloved classic Solitaire game, but an entire Solitaire Collection (which includes variants like Pyramid, Spider, and Freecell) for free. But as the adage goes, nothing is truly for free, and you may have to put up with some in-game advertisement. For those who may find the ads intrusive, a Premium Edition without ads is available for $1.99 (or 800 Naira) per month. As an added bonus, this version includes double coin rewards for daily challenges and game boosts, making it a fantastic deal for dedicated players.

Nowadays, there’s no need to be tethered to your desktop to experience a digital dose of nostalgia. Visit these links to download the Solitaire games on iOS and Android and start dealing yourself a hand wherever, whenever.
