Windows Backup for Organisations which has been formally announced by Microsoft is a new enterprise-grade backup application from Microsoft that helps streamline backups and ease the move to Windows 11, became generally available this week. It is also an enterprise-focused backup solution made to help IT teams with Windows 11 upgrades and device transfers.
The solution would assist companies in maintaining Microsoft Store installations, app preferences, and system settings on both Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices, according to the company.
This opt-in feature, which is disabled by default and has been in public preview since May 2025, was first revealed at the Microsoft Ignite conference in November 2024.
On Entra-joined devices, Windows Backup for Organisations is accessible following the September 2025 Windows Monthly Cumulative Update; however, it requires an IT administrator to enable it by setting up backup and restore policy settings.
Turned on, this application can backup Windows settings, preferences, and programs installed from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems. It can also assist in restoring them on Windows 11 PCs while the device is being set up.

The technology is “enterprise-grade,” according to Microsoft, which promises safe cloud storage and easy administration for extensive implementations. Exchange Online stores all backed-up data under the tenant’s designated nation or area and is secured by several encryption levels.
