Microsoft Fixes Windows Certificate Enrolment Bug

A known problem that resulted in erroneous CertificateServicesClient (CertEnroll) error messages after installing the July 2025 preview and later Windows 11 24H2 updates has been resolved by Microsoft.

The business encouraged customers to disregard error occurrences brought on by recent updates that resulted in a warning about the ‘Microsoft Pluton Cryptographic Provider’ not loading when it disclosed this fault two weeks ago.

Also Microsoft stated that the following installation of the July 2025 Windows non-security preview update (KB5062660) and later updates including the August 2025 Windows security update, Event Viewer may display an error related to CertificateServicesClient (CertEnroll) which can be safely ignored.

This is just a measure to allow everyone to be aware that this event does not indicate a problem with any running Windows components, even though it is recorded in Event Viewer each time the device is rebooted. This event has no effect on Windows processes, and there is nothing that has to be done to stop or fix this problem.

Microsoft added that the known problem is brought on by a feature that is still in the development stage and hasn’t been completely incorporated into the operating system.

Redmond confirmed that the flaw has been fixed and that a fix will be released over the course of the next four weeks by updating the Windows release health dashboard earlier today.

Microsoft stated last Friday that this resolution is gradually rolling out for commercial devices that have Windows updates managed by Microsoft and consumer devices (Home and Pro editions) and will be automatically enabled on devices with KB5064081, released on August 29, 2025.

It is anticipated that the deployment would be finished in about four weeks, on or by end of September 2025. This fix will thereafter be included by default in all upcoming security and non-security releases.

Microsoft has fixed a number of other related problems in recent months that have affected different Windows functionality and also caused false alerts that had no real effect.

For example, the business verified last month that installing the June 2025 preview update and restarting the computer caused Windows Firewall configuration difficulties due to another known bug.

An issue that resulted in invalid 0x80070643 failure errors after installing the April 2025 Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates was recognised and corrected in April. In the same month, it resolved a known problem that caused Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems to experience erroneous BitLocker drive encryption problems.

The CertificateServicesClient (CertEnroll) is the CertEnroll component that oversees the renewal of these created certificates, while the CertificateServicesClient tool handles digital certificate management on Windows. You would experience issues when utilising or connecting to a network, website, or service if the utility had a real malfunction.
