Microsoft Released $200 Million Cash Benefits For Its Employees To Ease The Pandemic Effects

According to Microsoft’s internal memo drafted by Kathleen Hogan, Microsoft’s chief people officer — the software company is granting an extra $1,500 benefit to its employees — a soluble human resources intervention to resolve the pandemic default.

On the other hand, Microsoft had to acknowledge the “unique and challenging fiscal year” the software company recently accomplished.

It worth noting that a media house leaked the software company’s internal memo after Kathleen announced the benefit is reserved for all eligible employees under the Microsoft brand. Globally, Microsoft’s employees below top-level management and the corporate part-time employees (especially those on hourly wage payroll).

Kathleen’s announcement revealed Microsoft has recruited thousands of employees who are currently active — over 175, 508 Microsoft employees are eligible for its custom pandemic benefit. However,  note that Microsoft employees serving its subsidiary companies, including, Zenimax, LinkedIn, and GitHub are not eligible for this $1,500 benefit.

The software company reserved over $200 million to share the benefit with its employees, just like other tech companies have reportedly done in recent times, including Amazon’s $300 per employee for holiday benefit, Facebook’s $1000 benefit per employee, etc.

Still, Microsoft represents the first tech giant to regard the pandemic granting benefits to employees — despite the philanthropic campaign that has contributed over $160 million to curb the covid-19 outbreak.

The initial $98 million the software company granted was released exactly when covid-19 went viral, while the other 60 million dollars was donated at the time the pandemic was critical in July.

These donations Microsoft has been offering are derived from a pinch of its fiscal revenue. The multinational software company is involved with diversified tech-related businesses whereby its cloud computing business and its Windows OS software are flagship products to generate more revenue for Microsoft.

It worth noting that the software company is expecting more earnings from its newly developed Windows 11. Several users have reportedly attempted to preview Windows 11 as members in Microsoft’s Insider Program, while others successfully integrated the software with smartphones. With more revenue to be generated from this OS, more benefit is likely to be granted.
