Microsoft has announced significant price increases across its Xbox product line, affecting consoles, controllers, and select first-party games worldwide. This move aligns Xbox’s pricing with competitors like PlayStation and Nintendo, reflecting broader industry trends and economic pressures.

New Console Pricing

Effective immediately, the recommended retail prices (RRPs) for Xbox consoles have been adjusted as follows:

United States

  • Xbox Series S (512GB): $379.99 (up from $299.99)
  • Xbox Series S (1TB): $429.99 (up from $349.99)
  • Xbox Series X (Digital Edition): $549.99 (up from $449.99)
  • Xbox Series X (Standard): $599.99 (up from $499.99)
  • Xbox Series X (2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition): $729.99 (up from $599.99)

Europe

  • Xbox Series S (512GB): €349.99
  • Xbox Series S (1TB): €399.99
  • Xbox Series X (Digital Edition): €549.99
  • Xbox Series X (Standard): €599.99
  • Xbox Series X (2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition): €699.99

These adjustments eliminate the previous price advantage Xbox held over its competitors, bringing its console prices in line with industry standards.

Accessory Price Increases

Alongside console price hikes, Microsoft has raised the prices of various Xbox accessories:

  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Core): $64.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Colour Variants): $69.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Special Edition): $79.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Limited Edition): $89.99
  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Core): $149.99
  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Full): $199.99
  • Xbox Stereo Headset: $64.99
  • Xbox Wireless Headset: $119.99

These increases reflect the rising costs of manufacturing and distribution in the current economic climate.

Upcoming Game Price Adjustments

Starting this holiday season, Microsoft plans to raise the prices of select new first-party Xbox games:

  • Standard Edition: $79.99 (up from $69.99)

This change aligns with similar moves by other major publishers and reflects the increasing development costs of AAA titles.

Microsoft’s decision comes amid various economic challenges, including inflation, supply chain disruptions, and increased production costs. The company stated that these price adjustments are necessary to maintain the quality and sustainability of its gaming ecosystem.

While these changes may impact consumer purchasing decisions, Microsoft continues to offer value through services like Xbox Game Pass, which remains unaffected by the current price increases.
