Microsoft Officially Rebrands Nokia as ‘Microsoft Lumia’

In a move that some industry analysts had foreseen, Microsoft has officially confirmed it will jettison the “Nokia” name from its strategic smartphone brand. This fundamental shift comes less than a year after Microsoft took over the Finnish telecommunications giant for an estimated $7.2 billion in April. The transition emphasizes Microsoft’s keen intent to forge a discrete identity in the competitive smartphone market. It should be highlighted that this rebranding solely applies to the mobile wing of Nokia – the non-mobile division will continue to operate under the traditional Nokia banner.

Consequently, the new handsets formerly known as “Nokia Lumia” will henceforth be marketed as ‘Microsoft Lumia.’ This rebranding initiative was first disclosed through a post on Nokia France’s Facebook page. According to Microsoft, this name change will gradually make its waves across the global market.

It’s pertinent to note that since acquisition, Microsoft has incrementally transformed the once slow-paced Nokia mobile sector into a dynamic, profitable venture experiencing surging customer demand.
