Recall we recently reported Microsoft’s plans to join in the race to develop a Metaverse, a future ambition the company Meta (formerly called Facebook) rebranded for. Even though both companies are perceived as competition in the Metaverse race, there are a few great things both companies can achieve together and this is definitely one of them.

As plans continue to roll out in a bid to create sustainable Metaverse infrastructures, Microsoft is partnering with Meta in a bid to integrate Microsoft Teams into Zuckerberg’s Workplace platform. Facebook Workplace or Workplace by Meta as it’s newly called will soon unveil an integration of Microsoft Teams to allow live streams into Workplace groups.

The Microsoft Teams integration into the company formerly known as Facebook’s Workplace will allow employees using Teams or Workplace an opportunity to view, comment, and react to meetings in real-time without the inconvenience of having to switch in between apps.

Also, the integration will enable Teams users to have complete access to content in Workplace through an app within Teams.  Users have the option of pinning the app to the Teams navigation bar with the inclusion of a homepage of Workplace content. Microsoft Teams admins will have the ability to mark content as important in the Workplace app.

Jeff Teper, Head of Microsoft 365 collaboration disclosed that “One thing I’ve learned…, there’s not going to be a one and only communications tool on the planet” Teper added that “People are going to choose a number of tools, so I think it’s on us as responsible vendors to make sure they can integrate and interoperate.”

The integration of Workplace by Meta and Microsoft Teams is said to be one of the latest in a broader partnership between the two giant technological companies, many more partnerships are expected. The Workplace by Meta has already been integrated into various applications like SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft’s Office 365 suite. Microsoft’s Azure Active Directory has quickly become one of the top 10 apps around since Meta’s integration into Workplace.

Microsoft Teams is reportedly arriving on the Meta Portal device later in December, this means that users will have the ability to do video calling in Teams. This latest Teams and Workplace integration has gone live already, giving businesses the opportunity to share Workplace content with Teams. The live streaming integration of Teams meetings into the Workplace is said to be available later in the year 2022.

Since Microsoft announced joining the race for Metaverse, too many it appears like each of these tech companies -Microsoft and Meta are busy tidying up their technological arsenals and setting the stage for what may be become a competition for the metaverse enterprise which is in years to come. Even though both companies’ recently unveiled similar visions for virtual spaces and meetings with undisclosed desires of one superseding the other and taking on a larger market share. But given these continued groundbreaking partnerships and many more to come, the race might as well be a collaborative effort rather than competitive to develop sustainable virtual reality and metaverse infrastructures the world can rely on in the near future.
