Microsoft Q3 FY2025 Earnings: AI and Cloud Propel Revenue to $70.1B

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) reported robust financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, with revenue reaching $70.1 billion, a 13% increase year-over-year. Net income rose to $25.8 billion, or $3.46 per share, surpassing analyst expectations.

  • Revenue: $70.1 billion, up 13% YoY

  • Earnings Per Share (EPS): $3.46, exceeding forecasts
  • Operating Income: $32 billion, a 16% increase
  • Microsoft Cloud Revenue: $42.4 billion, up 20% YoY
  • Azure Revenue Growth: 33% YoY
  • Capital Expenditures: $21.4 billion, with plans to invest $80 billion in infrastructure for fiscal 2025 

These results underscore Microsoft’s strategic focus on cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI), which continue to drive significant growth across its business segments.

Segment Performance

Intelligent Cloud

The Intelligent Cloud segment generated $26.8 billion in revenue, a 21% increase year-over-year. Azure and other cloud services saw revenue growth of 33%, with AI services contributing 16 percentage points to this growth. 

Productivity and Business Processes

Revenue in this segment reached $29.9 billion, up 10% YoY. Microsoft 365 Commercial revenue grew by 12%, driven by increased adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot and E5 offerings. LinkedIn revenue increased by 7%, reflecting resilience in the professional networking space. 

More Personal Computing

This segment reported $13.4 billion in revenue, a 6% increase YoY. Windows OEM and Devices revenue rose by 3%, while Xbox content and services revenue grew by 8%. Search and news advertising revenue, excluding traffic acquisition costs, increased by 21%. 

Microsoft’s investment in AI is evident across its product offerings. The company introduced new AI agents, such as Researcher and Analyst, integrated into Microsoft 365, enhancing productivity tools with advanced capabilities. 

Looking ahead, Microsoft anticipates continued growth in its cloud and AI services. The company projects Q4 revenue between $73.7 billion and $74.7 billion, driven by sustained demand for Azure and AI solutions. Capital expenditures are expected to increase sequentially, supporting infrastructure expansion to meet growing customer needs. 

In Q3 FY2025, Microsoft returned $9.7 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases, reflecting a 15% increase compared to the same period last year.
