Customers were unable to access the My Sign-Ins platform or set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) due to an ongoing issue that Microsoft has resolved. The company’s Microsoft 365 Status account posted on X, formerly Twitter, earlier today that they are looking into a problem where some users might not be able to set up MFA or access the http://mysignins.microsoft.com website.
Those impacted by this outage are experiencing 504 Gateway Timeout issues, according to additional information published in the admin center under MO1329260. Some users on Reddit may be unable to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) or access the mysignins.microsoft.com website. When attempting to access mysignins.microsoft.com, users may experience 504 Gateway Timeout issues, according to the statement.
Microsoft said it has acknowledged the problem, moved to a different, healthy infrastructure to lessen its effects, and stated that it is currently keeping an eye on service telemetry to guarantee a full recovery.
Microsoft also stated in the admin centre that they have completed mitigation actions, including failing over to alternate infrastructure, and are continuing to monitor service health. They went on further to say that they are currently looking into further mitigation options, such as streamlining the processing of service requests, in order to further stabilize the service if high mistake rates continue.”
The company confirmed by verifying the problem at roughly 5 AM ET and classified it as an ongoing incident, a flag often used to denote serious service issues with noticeable user impact, though it has not yet disclosed which regions that it was affecting.
Also earlier this year, Microsoft also said it had fixed an Outlook.com outage that prevented users from accessing their mailboxes because of sporadic signing-in problems, as well as a known problem that prevented some Microsoft Teams Free users from chatting and calling others.
Microsoft also claimed that a recent cache configuration change was the cause of the issue and that access to the My Sign-Ins service has been restored. In an admin centre update, Microsoft also stated that they have discovered that a recent cache configuration change required a failover. The MySignIn service was unable to handle the volume of requests during the failover due to excessive CPU and memory consumption during the peak of EU traffic. Since then, mitigation measures have been reversed, and traffic is now using the original infrastructure.
For the resolution and next step, Microsoft has advised that they resolved the disruption by redirecting affected traffic to alternative, healthy infrastructure. The teams are now optimizing how requests are processed. They are also monitoring service telemetry to ensure long-term stability. If any team continues to experience performance issues, Microsoft advised that their IT administrator can track live status updates inside the Microsoft 365 Admin Center’s health dashboard.
