Microsoft Teams Is Now Optimized For Macs With M1 Or M2 Chips

For Macs equipped with M1 or M2 processors, Microsoft has developed a native version of its Teams client. In the upcoming months, the software giant will begin pushing out a native version of Microsoft Teams that should offer performance advantages for Mac users with the most recent M1 or M2 chips.

According to Anupam Pattnaik, a member of the Microsoft Teams product marketing team writes in a blog post that this “means a significant boost in performance for Mac users, ensuring efficient use of device resources and an optimized Teams experience even when using multiple high-resolution monitors during calls or meetings.”

Native support for Microsoft Teams on Apple Silicon has been a highly sought-after feature. The current version of Microsoft Teams has been operating as a standard app utilizing Apple’s Rosetta 2 emulation. The deployment of this new app update will occur over months rather than days or weeks, even though all Mac users of Teams will eventually receive it automatically.

In the coming months, Pattnaik said, “increments of the generally available (GA) version of the native Teams software on Mac with Apple silicon are being rolled out to consumers.” A beta has been accessible for a while if users don’t want to wait for the update to reach their computer.

After releasing native versions of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and OneNote for M1 Macs over two years ago, Microsoft has now published a native version of Teams for Apple Silicon.
