Microsoft’s Nadella Is Building a Cricket App in His Spare Time

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, skips Netflix and long walks during his downtime or free time, choosing instead to develop a cricket analysis app, a hobby only a tech-savvy cricket fan would take on to relax with.

He spoke at a Microsoft event in Bangalore, Nadella disclosed that he developed a Deep Research AI program to analyse cricket, a sport he has enjoyed doing since he was a young child, over Thanksgiving. Naturally, he asked his homemade AI program to select an all-time Indian Test XI as its first task.

Nadella expressed his obvious satisfaction with his invention, saying, “The system produced consensus areas, debates, reasoning chains, everything.” “It was excellent. According to him, he said, his goal was to become a member of the Copilot team.

Although the notion that the CEO of Microsoft would apply for a position in the company’s AI group made him blush, Nadella’s excitement was clearly sincere. He talked about fusing cricket and technology, two of his greatest hobbies. In all honesty, who wouldn’t want an AI tool that could resolve the long-standing Dravid vs. Kohli No. 3 controversy?

Considering Nadella’s expanding cricket portfolio, this small side endeavour makes even more sense. He is one of a group of tech businessmen who purchased a 49 percent share in the London Spirit, a side in England’s Hundred cricket league, for 147 million pounds. The Seattle Orcas, a professional Twenty20 club situated near Microsoft’s headquarters, is another team he co-owns. Nadella isn’t merely a fan, to put it briefly. He has given it his all.

Meanwhile, a significant Memorandum of Understanding was inked in New Delhi by Microsoft with the Ministry of Labour and Employment during Nadella’s visit to India. The Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed in front of Nadella and Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, focusses on increasing employment opportunities, increasing AI-based training, and preparing Indian workers for positions in the global economy.

Microsoft’s strategy to add over 15,000 partners and employers from its global network to the National Career Service (NCS) platform is a crucial component of the collaboration. This will help high-growth industries and provide access to formal employment, according to the government.

Millions of youth will receive training in AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and productivity tools thanks to the deal, which will also strengthen AI-led skills through DigiSaksham.

With coverage increasing from 19% in 2015 to an astounding 64.3% in 2025, India has reached a historic milestone in social protection, benefiting nearly 94 crore persons. We are strengthening social security and getting closer to our aim of providing social protection to 100 crore persons by March 2026 by integrating AI into programs like e-Shram and the National Career Service,” he stated.

Nadella praised India’s development, pointing out that 940 million people, or 64.3% of the population, are now covered by social safety. He also commended the e-Shram program for facilitating real-time, data-driven policymaking and bringing unorganised workers within the safety net.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed this, during his tour to India, where he gained international recognition for both a significant investment commitment and an unforeseen personal project that connects artificial intelligence with one of India’s most enduring athletic traditions.
