Mistral AI raised $830 million in debt for a new Paris-area data centre powered by Nvidia chips, per Reuters and CNBC.
When Mistral’s CEO Arthur Mensch stated last year that the company would look into various financing options in February 2025, Mistral first revealed ambitions to construct a data centre. According to a Monday Reuters article, it intends to finish constructing the data centre in Bruyeres-le-Chatel and open it for business in the second quarter of 2026.
A request for confirmation was not immediately answered by Mistral.
The business announced last month that it would invest $1.4 billion in Sweden to develop data centres and other AI infrastructure.
By 2027, Mistral plans to install 200 megawatts of processing power throughout Europe.
In order to empower our clients and guarantee that AI innovation and autonomy continue to be at the centre of Europe, we must scale our infrastructure throughout the continent. Given the increasing and ongoing demand from businesses, governments, and academic institutions looking to create their own unique AI environments rather than rely on outside cloud providers, we will keep making investments in this field,” Mensch said in a statement to CNBC.
Crunchbase data shows Mistral has raised approximately €2.8 billion ($3.1 billion) from backers such as General Catalyst, ASML, a16z, Lightspeed, and DST Global.
The data centre will house 13,800 Nvidia GB300 GPUs for AI training and inference, with a 44 MW capacity expected by Q2 2026. Seven banks, including BNP Paribas, HSBC, and Bpifrance, provided the debt financing. CEO Arthur Mensch emphasized that scaling European infrastructure is essential for “AI innovation and autonomy,” addressing demand for a sovereign cloud from governments and enterprises.
The Paris data centre is part of Mistral’s broader European expansion, aiming for 200 MW of capacity by 2027, including a $1.4 billion investment in Sweden. The debt round follows a €1.7 billion Series C led by ASML in late 2025, which valued the company at €11.7 billion ($13.5 billion). Mistral is positioning itself as Europe’s leading challenger to OpenAI and Anthropic, with a focus on regulated sectors like defense and finance.
