More Language Support For Apple Intelligence From April

Apple is gradually entering new areas with its suite of intelligent capabilities, known as Apple Intelligence.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the AI will be supported in eight additional languages in addition to translated English versions for India and Singapore, Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI suite, will soon be accessible in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and simplified Chinese in April at the company’s Q4 2024 quarterly earnings call on Thursday (via MacRumors).

The initial version of Apple Intelligence last year only supported English in the United States. The firm later added support for English in Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, South African, and U.K. localizations when it released the iOS 18.2 update in December. Plans to introduce its AI suite in the EU and Mainland China have not been disclosed by the firm.

Although Cook hasn’t stated anything directly, this is probably going to happen when iOS 18.4 is released.

This is significant for Apple Intelligence, which the company has been introducing gradually and cautiously over the second half of 2024. According to Apple, “many of the core features of Apple Intelligence will start to roll out to iPhone and iPad users in the EU” in April, although the company’s AI still doesn’t function in the majority of situations in Europe because of EU DMA restrictions.

Cook stated on the results call that as more users move to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models—the only ones that now enable AI—Apple Intelligence usage will rise. Additionally, the CEO defended Apple Intelligence’s utility. “…once you start using the features you can’t imagine not using them anymore,” he stated. “I know I get hundreds of emails a day, and the summarization function is so important.”

Additionally, according to Cook, Siri’s Apple Intelligence features and updates on Siri, which can comprehend context on-screen, will be released “over the next several months.”
