MTN and Major Firms Relocate to Eko Atlantic

According to a source, MTN Nigeria, the nation’s biggest telecom provider, intends to open its new headquarters in Eko Atlantic, making it the first telecom firm to do so.

As part of the relocation, the telecom joins a growing number of companies, such as First Bank and Dangote Group, among the many major companies moving to the 10-square-kilometre metropolis, and MTN Nigeria, the nation’s biggest mobile network provider, is establishing its new headquarters there as well. Attracted by Eko Atlantic’s promise of first-rate infrastructure, contemporary office space, and a well-designed city layout, the US Embassy is also building a new diplomatic complex there.

Four years after initially announcing intentions to construct a new head office, MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola said on Wednesday that the company’s new headquarters will be located at Eko Atlantic. MTN has demonstrated its trust in the coastal city’s potential as one of Nigeria’s leading economic hubs by being the first telecom provider to establish a facility there.

“We are dedicated to making long-term investments in Lagos, going beyond connectivity. At the MyLagosApp launch ceremony in Lagos, Toriola stated, “As part of this commitment, we have acquired a piece of land in Eko Atlantic City, and we will begin construction once we have the equipment.”

In 2008, Eko Atlantic City was established, and that same year, land reclamation began. Situated adjacent to Lagos’ primary business sector, Victoria Island, it strives to become the most cutting-edge commercial centre in the city. Eko Atlantic’s strategic position and state-of-the-art infrastructure are drawing in enterprises, real estate investors, and prominent organisations seeking a well-planned corporate environment.

According to sources, the construction estimate is in the millions. The three stages of Eko Atlantic City’s land values are determined by factors such as size, location, and planned use. Plot sizes for Phases 1 and 2, which are devoted to mid- to high-rise constructions, start at about 2,200 square meters, and the beginning price is $1,150 per square meter. Phase 3 is priced at $1,050 per square meter and is designed for low-rise residential homes with site sizes starting at about 1,200 square meters.

In Lagos, MTN Nigeria is also building the biggest Tier-4 data centre in West Africa. In addition to housing 1,500 racks, the facility will function as a carrier-neutral hub that facilitates interconnection between several cloud service providers and Internet service providers (ISPs).
