Intriguing Google Announcement Hints at an Upcoming Smartphone Reveal on October 4

Yesterday, Google provoked further speculation on the topic of its mysterious October 4 media event. The tech giant triggered intrigue by tweeting a link to a site named “Made by Google” teasing users with the opportunity to sign up for additional information about upcoming Google devices.

The site invites visitors to input their email address, with the prompt resulting in a standard “Thank you! We’ll be in touch soon” message. This user experience strongly hints that Google’s October 4 event is geared towards unveiling a new device, likely a smartphone.

This announcement arrives hot on the heels of several high-profile launches from key competitors, such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, LGV20, and Apple’s latest iPhones and Apple Watch. Given this bustling activity within the mobile marketplace, it’s widely speculated that Google is primed to counter with the release of their own smartphones.

If industry reports are accurate, these new devices will ditch the “Nexus” moniker, instead being christened as “Pixel” phones. Whereas HTC has historically manufactured Google’s Nexus devices, rumors are circulating that these new Pixel phones will be produced by HTC on behalf of Google.

At one point, this period was earmarked for the debut of Project Ara—Google’s ambitious modular phone initiative. However, despite the fervor surrounding Project Ara earlier this year, it’s now suggested that the project may have been indefinitely shelved.

Additional revelations are expected at the October 4 event. We anticipate further information concerning Google Home—a voice-activated home device announced in May. Google Home allows users to query Google, stream music, and manage daily tasks verbally. More detailed specifics (including pricing information) for this exciting piece of hardware should be forthcoming.

October 4 is rapidly approaching, and we eagerly await the official announcements and product reveals promised by Google at this event. Be sure to stay tuned and sign up to “Made by Google” to be among the first to know.
