In order to improve service delivery and enable easy access to verified data for both individuals and businesses, the Corporate Affairs Commission and the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System have revealed an Application Programming Interface integration platform.
The Registrar-General of the CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, stated during the opening event on Monday in Abuja that the API program will allow a limited number of private sector organizations known as “super agents” to retrieve data from the commission’s database in exchange for a fee.
He claims that the action represents a dramatic change from the past, when only a small number of government organizations, especially those engaged in financial crime and law enforcement, were able to use these API services.
According to Magaji, the integration was intended to facilitate corporate transactions in Nigeria and aid in the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing.
“This is a reaction to the need for timely services from customers.” Through a few tech-savvy companies like NIBSS, we are now delivering CAC services right to our clients’ doorsteps,” he stated.
Beyond the conventional information often provided by the commission, the CAC chairman stated that super agents will be able to filter and reformat company data into customized information suited to their clients’ needs.
However, he emphasized that the Nigerian Data Protection Act 2023 was strictly followed in the development of the integration.
Sensitive personal information including dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, and residence addresses would therefore be safeguarded and potentially limited.
NIBSS, Moniepoint, Opay, and Oasis Management Company Limited are among the pioneering companies recognized as the first super agents.
Noting that the company already offers biometric verification services through the Bank Verification Number system across the country, Magaji characterized NIBSS as a reliable and trustworthy partner.
“With this initiative, NIBSS has made it easier for embassies, financial institutions, and other entities to obtain verified company information and status reports,” he stated.
Ngover Ihyembe-Nwankwo, the Executive Director of Business Development at NIBSS, also spoke at the event and praised the idea as a revolutionary step in bringing the public and private sectors together.
According to Ihyembe-Nwankwo, “this service democratizes access to data verification, ensuring it is secure, inclusive, and efficient.”
“It ushers in a new era where service delivery for all Nigerians is integrated with innovation, trust, and accessibility.”
According to her, the collaboration supports NIBSS’s long-standing objectives of fostering digital transformation, improving interoperability, and cutting expenses in the financial services industry.
“With this partnership, we are contributing to the development of a more open and reliable business environment in Nigeria,” she continued.
The CAC-NIBSS cooperation, according to stakeholders at the inauguration, is a major turning point in Nigeria’s digital economy journey and paves the way for additional innovations in public service delivery led by the private sector.
