The Nintendo Switch Online app has been updated and made considerably more useful by Nintendo in anticipation of the Nintendo Switch 2, which comes in precisely one week. A new, pithier moniker has also been given to it. The Nintendo Switch App is here to replace the Nintendo Switch Online App.
Nintendo secretly released the Nintendo Switch Online app version 3.0.1 on May 28. As previously stated, this shortened the app’s name and made minor UI changes. The main news is that you can now use the Switch App to post videos and screenshots from the Switch 2 straight to your phone, eliminating the requirement for a QR code. Up to 100 images and videos can be automatically sent to the app from the Switch 2. You will have 30 days to download these from your phone. Better yet, there is no requirement for a paid Switch Online subscription to access this new function. However, only the Switch 2 has this new feature.
The option to add friends through the app itself and get alerts on your phone when your friends join in are two more fantastic updates.
It feels like Nintendo is finally catching up because many of these capabilities have been there in Sony and Microsoft’s applications and consoles for years. However, it’s good that the Switch app will be much more practical and feel more contemporary on phones. I was shocked to learn that you needed to utilize a QR code and send it over wifi because I’ve never sent a screenshot from my Switch to my phone. everything’s far better to use the cloud and let the console do everything automatically.
