Nokia is one of those few brands that has set a body of standards when it comes to mobile phones and mobile technology. The Finnish company announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure service and Google Cloud earlier today. Nokia’s partnership with the aforementioned global tech companies is aimed at developing new cloud-based 5G radio solutions with its radio access network (RAN) technology.

When it comes to 5G and mobile technology in general, Nokia is one of the best in the industry with innovative and trend-setting ideas and designs. Its 5G technology, networks and phones are one of the best in the game. The company announced that the goal of its partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft and Google is to develop new business cases.

According to Tomi Uitto; Nokia’s President of Mobile Networks, ‘open collaboration is key to the development of new and innovative high value 5G use cases that will equip our customers with the tools they need for digital transformation’.

The agreements that Nokia signed today highlighted its relationship with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Google who are the main public cloud providers. The agreement with Amazon Web Services is a collaboration that will enable Nokia’s 5G virtual radio access network (RAN) and open radio access network (RAN) to be integrated with Amazon Web Services Outposts and their joint trials will take place in Nokia’s facilities within Finland. Nokia’s partnership with Amazon Web Services will enable enterprises and service providers to be able to use Nokia’s radio access network (RAN) technologies with other AWS services such as AWS Local Zones, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS).

Nokia’s partnership with Microsoft came as a second announcement. The company made it known that it would be partnering with Microsoft Azure in developing 4G and 5G wireless solutions for enterprises. With this new development, Nokia will be combining its open radio access network (RAN), radio access controller (RAC) and Multi-access edge cloud with Microsoft Azure. Azure brings data processing nearer to the user and is very useful for applications that have huge computing needs and are based on 5G.

Nokia’s collaboration with Google entails developing new cloud-based radio solutions and will integrate Nokia’s radio access network (RAN) with Google Cloud’s edge computing platform and applications ecosystem.
