In an escalating wave of consequences following Samsung’s decision to cease production of its controversial Galaxy Note 7, Oculus, a leading pioneer in virtual reality technology, has announced it will discontinue Gear VR support on the embattled device until further notice.

The Gear VR is Samsung’s phone-based virtual reality headset, a device innovatively developed through a collaboration with Oculus. The temporary suspension of this service underlines the impact of Samsung’s on-going challenges with its faulty flagship phone.

Oculus released a statement elucidating their decision, highlighting choice to prioritize customer safety above all else. “As our customer safety is our top priority, Oculus is removing support for all Note 7 devices on our platform. For now, Note7 devices will not be compatible with the Gear VR. For more information regarding the Note7, please contact Samsung directly.”

The ramifications of the Galaxy Note 7’s problematic launch continue to plague Samsung both publicly and financially. The tech titan’s shares are steadily decreasing, causing a steady downward spiral in its market value. These operational woes paint a picture of a company at crossroads, as it grapples to recover from its recent fallout.
