OLX, a global online marketplace, yesterday revealed that Nigerian homes are sitting on a treasure trove of unused, quality items worth in excess of N512 billion. In demonstrating the potential of second-hand transactions, the company is urging Nigerians to declutter their homes and embrace the opportunity to generate income by selling these unused items through their digital platform.

Operating across 45 countries, OLX serves to connect individuals and facilitate the buying, selling, and exchange of pre-loved goods. The platform is acclaimed for its user-friendly design which allows anyone to effortlessly list items from their mobile or web devices. A haven for diverse product categories, products available on the platform vary from smartphones, computers, and furniture, to beauty products, sporting goods, cars, real estate, and much more.

OLX expressed that a significant proportion of Nigerians are yet to harness the financial potential of their unused items. This stems from a lack of knowledge required to facilitate the sale of these items online, or a personal desire to preserve items for future use. The company said:

“Many people fail to realize the inherent value of the unused items in their homes and are unaware of how to sell them online. Additionally, there tends to be a tendency to hoard items with the prospect of future use.”

In response to these findings and to enhance user experience, OLX has recently introduced a premium service aptly named “Do-It-For-Me”. The new feature is strategically designed to aid busy users to conveniently sell their items with the assistance of OLX sales experts. Thus, a seamless exchange process is enabled between consumers with minimal hassle.

A success STORY on this new service is that of the busy mother of three and Chief Executive Officer of Nuts about Cakes, who featured in the OLX TV commercial. Mrs. Majekodunmi utilized the OLX “Do-It-For-Me” service when she required a larger oven for her bakery. She shares her experience:

“Given my hectic schedule, I needed assistance in quickly selling off my old oven as I had to purchase a new one. This led me to visit the OLX site to enlist a Champ. The mere thought of receiving calls from strangers was far from appealing. I absolutely loved that the process was smooth, and the Champ handled all the bargaining on my behalf.”

Recalling her positive experience, Mrs Majekodunmi praised OLX for their excellent service, revealing that her company experienced a significant sales boost, leading to the establishment of a fourth store.

If your life’s fast pace leaves you with little to no free time and you have underused items gathering dust in your house, consider unlocking their potential and generating an additional income stream by using the OLX Champs.
