Millions of Vitel Wireless customers will be able to easily buy airtime and data for the Vitel Wireless network straight from their bank accounts thanks to a strategic agreement between Vitel Wireless and two of Nigeria’s top-tier fintech companies, OPay Limited and Moniepoint Limited.
The management of Vitel Wireless claims that this partnership is a major step in closing the gap between Nigerian financial services and telecommunications access.
According to the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Chudi Nwabueze, Vitel Wireless wants to increase mobile connection, particularly in underserved and rural regions, by utilizing the vast user bases and digital payment infrastructure of OPay and Moniepoint.
He continued further by stating that “by expanding its partnership model with traditional banks like Fidelity Bank and Zenith Bank to fintech giants like OPay and Moniepoint, Vitel Wireless continues to demonstrate the close collaboration between financial services and telecom services.”
He added that this integration removes access hurdles and enhances the user experience by enabling users to easily top up airtime and buy data bundles using their current fintech wallets or banking platforms.
Also, speaking about the agreement, Ms. Odera Ben-Chiobi, Product Marketing Manager at Vitel Wireless, stated that the collaboration aligns with our mission to democratize access to mobile connectivity across Nigeria. She went further to say that they are bringing telecom services closer to millions of Nigerians by collaborating with top fintech platforms like OPay and Moniepoint, especially in rural areas where access has historically been restricted.
According to her, the collaboration also aids in larger initiatives to promote financial inclusion throughout Nigeria. Ben-Chiobi pointed out that Vitel Wireless and its partners are building an ecosystem where consumers can obtain necessary services more effectively and economically by fusing telecom services with digital banking platforms.
Due to the existing cooperation arrangement with MTN, its host mobile network, to co-share MTN’s radio infrastructure throughout Nigeria, Vitel Wireless has a broad countrywide network coverage across all states.
By guaranteeing that more Nigerians may engage in the digital economy through dependable connectivity and easily available financial tools, these measures highlight a common dedication that will bring about growth. Ben-Chiobi continued by saying that Vitel Wireless is a forward-thinking telecommunications company committed to providing innovative and reasonably priced mobile services throughout Nigeria, with a strong emphasis on expanding access in rural and underserved communities.
With millions of customers and robust agent networks around the country, OPay and Moniepoint have both established themselves as major participants in Nigeria’s fintech industry. It is expected that their partnership with Vitel Wireless will speed up the introduction of telecom and financial services into previously underserved areas.
Vitel’s new partnership with OPay and Moniepoint aims to boost digital inclusion for underserved and rural communities in Nigeria by enabling 24/7 airtime and data top-ups through those platforms while leveraging its infrastructure-sharing deal with MTN Nigeria and building on existing ties with Zenith Bank and Fidelity Bank.
In addition to OPay and Moniepoint, Vitel users can also recharge via the native Vitel Command App (which supports debit cards and USSD), through registered physical Vitel agents nationwide, or using payment gateways like Paystack and CoralPay.
