Opera Becomes First Major Desktop Browser To Integrate In-built Cryptocurrency Wallet

Opera web browser is now the first of the major browsers to include a cryptocurrency wallet and by doing this, they have removed the need for third party extensions thereby increasing the security of such transactions for users.

This desktop wallet supports major cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and synchronises with the mobile version (Opera for Android) which was announced back in June.

In a statement by Opera’s EVP of Browsers, Krystian Kolondra he said “after making crypto payments smooth and easy on mobile, we wanted the find the perfect solution for PCs. We realised the best way is to utilise our new mobile crypto wallet technology and to give our PC users access to it.”

The security in the Opera approach is that instead of having to enter some kind of password, you just approve transactions using the biometric provisions like the fingerprint scanner to do it.

Cryptographic keys and other resources are put away locally on the user’s telephone, as opposed to on a remote server some place. To link the mobile wallet to the desktop program, the client simply needs to scan a QR code.

All of this comes as a cryptocurrency is gradually making its way into mainstream and it looks like Opera is making a bet that it will eventually be the case that more users will come to appreciate transacting with digital currencies. This is why Krystian Kolondra said Opera’s next aim is to make crypto-integration mainstream, we believe blockchain technology has the power to transform the web of tomorrow and expect it to make a big difference in the years to come.”

This cryptocurrency for Opera on desktop is not out for users just yet but you can request access to it here to have a feel of what the crypto integration will be like when it eventually rolls out.
