Outage Confirmed As Users Were Unable To Access ChatGPT

Many users of the popular OpenAI service were unable to use ChatGPT at a late hours, yesterday as there was a major downtime which was confirmed.

Downdetector, a real-time problem and outage monitoring website, had received thousands of reports from people having problems using the chatbot.

ChatGPT’s parent firm, OpenAI, stated and verified on its status page, that users of ChatGPT are experiencing “degraded performance” and that the artificial intelligence company, headquartered in San Francisco, California, acknowledged by stating that “We had identified that users are experiencing elevated errors and investigating the issue for the impacted services.”

Previous ChatGPT outages and failures had lasted several hours, and users will be hoping that the chatbot will be fully operational as soon as possible.

DownDetector indicates that London, a city in the UK, was particularly affected during OpenAI’s outage.

Other cities, such as Manchester, Edinburgh, and Birmingham, have seen a considerable number of reports filed.

ChatGPT users voiced their frustration online after being unable to access the platform as many took to X (formerly Twitter) to complain about problems with the AI service, with several reporting that their chat histories had disappeared.

A Reddit user stated, “Down for me. First was an error message attaching files, and now everything is gone.”

A different individual commented: “Mine said unusual activity has been detected, so I tried to log out and log back in, and now I can’t log in lol.”

A third individual posted: “Got an error code saying ‘too many concurrent requests, try again later’ or something like that.”

During the downtime, OpenAI admitted to “experiencing issues,” including higher error rates on ChatGPT. The company then blamed the disruption on “a routing misconfiguration” and acknowledged that the issue had been addressed, with services restored to normal.

Approximately 93% of reported faults impacted ChatGPT specifically, whereas other OpenAI services appeared to be operational. Users reported getting unexpectedly locked out of their accounts and lost access to past conversation history.

Many users received an error message reading, “Unusual behaviour has been detected from your device. “Try it again later.”

The outage impacted users on many platforms, with reports indicating that the web version was particularly troublesome, while the Mac program displayed inconsistent operation.

The above is a more detailed reports in which downdetector received regarding the downtime on ChatGPT.

The ChatGPT website has now become a go-to destination for anyone seeking swift reply, answers or assistance with creative projects.

The timing is especially tricky because OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently issued a “code red” to improve platform reliability. The incident also comes shortly after OpenAI announced a security breach at Mixpanel, one of its data analytics partners, that compromised user information such as names, emails, and API-related details.

Its design is intentionally simple, with a chat box and a blank space urging users to begin typing.

Most visitors never see the intricate mechanisms working underneath, but the service is based on massive networks of servers that process requests around the clock.

Updates occur discreetly in the background, frequently increasing speed or introducing minor improvements that typical users only notice over time.

Traffic might rise unexpectedly, particularly when a major news breaks or a new technology goes popular. Some users pay for a higher-tier subscription to avoid delays and gain access to newer model versions.

Despite significant user reports on two consecutive days, OpenAI’s official status page originally showed no issues during either outage, raising concerns about the company’s monitoring methods.
